liteXpress LXB404

I have an old Maglite and I wanted to give it a new life by replacing the old Krypton light bulb with a LED one.

It seems that Maglite sells their own LED upgrade module but it seems to be difficult to find nowadays. I ended up buying a liteXpress LXB404 LED module:

Upgrading the Maglite is very simple, just replace the old light bulb by the LED one, nothing specific to do.

  • Take the Maglite:

The LED module is much brighter than the original krypton light bulb. Here is a quick test (same manual camera settings on all pictures):

  • Spot mode (Krypton/LED)

  • Flood mode (Krypton/LED)

  • For comparison, my Tikka2 headlamp (4 LEDs)

The Maglite can still be used in candle mode, the LED is not too directional, but it's even more annoying than before (too bright when inadvertently looking at the light bulb):

Tip:

This Maglite is using D batteries, it's hard to find recheargeable ones, they are expensive and they require a big charger. I found some adapters that take 3 AA batteries to replace 1 D battery:
