Stop Picasa

19th post of my Stop Google serie.

What is it?

Picasa is two things:

• a photo management software,
• a photo-sharing website.

I personnaly don't like when somebody sends me a Picasa link to share pictures with me:

• sometimes I can't see the photo album if I don't have a Google account,
• it's a pain to retrieve (download) original pictures (I even wrote a software to automatically download pictures from picasa a long time ago).

Alternatives

For photo management:

• digiKam
• F-Spot
• gThumb
• KPhotoAlbum
• Shotwell

For photo sharing:

• Put your pictures on your blog/website for public pictures (or have some authentication/authorization for some restricted content).
• If you use ownCloud you can simply share your pictures with it (like any other files).
• Use LUTIm or install it on your server.
