What is it?

Google Maps is an online map service. Users can navigate through the world map on Google Maps website, the maps contain a lot of informations, points of interests… Google Maps also provides an API to be embedded in any website.

Alternatives

Maps data are very expensive, are quickly outdated, and represent a huge amount of data. An open alternative is difficult to create but that's what OpenStreetMap is. It's a collaborative maps service, offering similar services as Google Maps but in a more open way.
