Stop Google Maps

Twelfth post of my Stop Google series.

What is it?

Google Maps is an online map service. Users can navigate through the world map on Google Maps website; the maps contain a lot of information, points of interests… Google Maps also provides an API to be embedded in any website.

Alternatives

Maps data are costly, are quickly outdated, and represent a huge amount of data. An open alternative is challenging to create, but that’s what OpenStreetMap is. It’s a collaborative maps service, offering similar services as Google Maps but in a more open way.
