4th post of my Stop Google serie.

What is it?

In the beginning Google was a web search engine. A web page where you could type a query and returning you web pages matching it.

With time it's still doing the same, with lots of tracking and ads added and "personalized" results.

Alternatives

Plenty of alternatives here like Bing, Yandex… but they are the same. Centralized search engines profiling users.

There is DuckDuckGo which is using classic search engines but without profiling, so two users typing the same query will get the same results.

But we can go one step further with… decentralized search engines. Users can run their own search engine indexing a little bit of the web and combine search engines of all users to provide results. YaCy is that kind of search engine. I wrote a post on how to install YaCy.
